What are FSA and HSA accounts, and how do they benefit me?

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) are both tax-advantaged tools for covering healthcare costs, but they operate differently. FSAs are typically offered by employers and allow you to use pre-tax dollars for eligible medical expenses like prescriptions and copays. However, they often come with a “use-it-or-lose-it” rule, meaning unused funds may expire at the end of the plan year. HSAs, on the other hand, are available to individuals enrolled in high-deductible health plans and offer more flexibility, including the ability to roll over unused funds year to year.

How do I use my HSA or FSA funds to purchase Opill?

At checkout, choose the option labeled “Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA.” Enter your HSA or FSA card details and proceed with the transaction as you normally would.

Shop Pay keeps appearing—how can I use my HSA/FSA card instead?

If Shop Pay continues to override your checkout experience, try completing your purchase using an incognito or private browser window to bypass the default flow.

Why didn’t my HSA/FSA card go through?

Just like any payment card, HSA and FSA cards can be declined if the entered information is incorrect, such as the card number, expiration date, or billing zip code. Flex will notify you during checkout if any of these fields need to be corrected.

The most frequent reason for a declined transaction is insufficient funds. Before retrying, check your account balance with your HSA or FSA provider.

Can I still use my HSA/FSA funds if I don’t have a dedicated card?

Absolutely. You can still make a purchase using a regular credit card and request reimbursement. Select “Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA” at checkout, then enter your standard payment card.

After your purchase, Flex will send you an itemized receipt via email. You can submit this receipt to your HSA or FSA administrator for reimbursement.

Who is Flex, and how do they work with Opill?

Flex is a payment partner that enables customers to use HSA and FSA funds for eligible purchases. They function similarly to other alternative payment providers like Klarna or Affirm, and have teamed up with Opill to streamline the process.
